DOMUS "UNLOCKING"
ITS HISTORY

Since 1916, DOMUS locksmith is the "key" for quality in the doors of the Greek home. Undoubtedly, it is the leading Greek company in the field of door safety. Exports reached the Arab countries and as a result IΒΜ asked DOMUS to create and produce a modular base for its computers.

A 105 year old story of hard work still continues. DOMUS commits to continue providing high quality products, making an example of itself to all its stakeholders.

105 YEARS HISTORY
In 1902, the grandfather of our current CEO, Mr.Ioannis Kounelis went to Piraeus with his family from the Turkish occupied Serres and studied at the Engineering School of Piraeus Association. He worked from its establishment in the well-known company of Mr. Evangelos Mytilineos and was his right-hand man. In the year 1916, he manufactured by himself the first small molds in order to make metal parts for trunks.
In 1920, he set up the first small factory located in 36 Thivon Avenue and startsmakingmetal cans for gunpowder.
In 1936, the second generation has entered, Vasilis and Theodoulos, sons of Ioannis Kounelis and then the small factory starts making various metal parts for military equipment.
In 1940, the small enterprise “KOUNELIS” began to produce for the first time in Greece products that until then, the wholesalers supplied themfromabroad. Items such as buckles, latches, handles, trunk locks, etc.
In 1950, Vasilis and Theodoulos, start producing accessories for doors & windows. In 1951, the first Greek quality lock “PICCOLO”, the windows latches “REX” and the mortise locks “JACKSON” are been made in 208 Thivon Avenue.
In 1972, DOMUS SA starts its export activity with the first sale to Lebanon and from there to the Gulf region. In 1976, the 3rd generation takes over, Ioannis Kounelis (our current CEO) and Dimitrios Kounelis, while the company starts producing high security locks for all kind of profiles.
In 1984, our famous 20mm Mortise Lock is designed, produced and becomes the landmark for the further development of DOMUS SA.
In 1990, DOMUS SA was chosen by IBMto develop the production of a new type of flexible base for supplying the screens of its computers.
In 1997, the lock and cremon “DSL” is designed and produced. It becomes an instance hit and gains a special place in the market, thanks to its functionality and easy installation.
In 2009, the company defines the New Era. DOMUS SA still innovates with the system D-FENDER for sliding aluminiumwindows, themulti locking points locks TOP GEAR, the full range of Handles, the innovative EURO handle with antimicrobial coating and the Hook locks for metal constructions.

Since 2017 Domus is the leader in the antimicrobial treatment of the EURO handles. Now
Domus, responding to the needs of today’s reality, launches the “New Domus Antimicrobial Era”, with a complete antimicrobial product series, which includes all it’s premiumproducts,
such as the X-100 Tilt & Turn Mechanism, Cremon for Opening Windows, DSL61 Door Handles, EURO Door Handles, DSL Locks, D-FENDER and WK+ Extra Safety Lock.
It’s a great opportunity for the manufacturer or end-consumer to use a product to protect themselves from germs for a lifetime, with certified antimicrobial treatment that suspends
the development of the bacteria up to 99,96%.

Today, after 105 years DOMUS SA prides itself for being the biggestmanufacturing company in Greece, expanding its export activities inmore than 40 countries, which are also the biggest turnover of the company.

Despite the problems and the huge decline in the construction industry in the domestic market, the company has managed to remain financially healthy thanks to its always growing export activity to countries in Middle East, Africa, Balkans, etc. With huge experience in foreign trade, over 40 years, DOMUS has developed long-term commercial relationships with major foreign companies, which trust and promote its products to millions of consumers. The excellent quality of the products and its services have made the company leader in many foreign markets among leading European companies.

HUMAN RESOURCES

DOMUS supports the upward trend in both the quality of its products and the quality of people. Domus, always seeking to recruit young people who demonstrate talent, determination and desire to develop, aims for a long-term and fruitful cooperation with the company.

The Human Resources Department is daily trying to inject values such as team spirit, cooperation, commitment, ethics and honesty of employees and expects them to be confirmed through the everyday at work. The aim is the efficient working atmosphere, with people with whom we collaborate and cooperate in DOMUS of which we ourselves are providing the environment and defining its identity.

The organizational structure of the company includes Divisions/Directorates:

• FINANCE • COMMERCIAL • EXPORTS • HUMAN RESOURCES • RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT • QUALITY ASSURANCE AND QUALITY CONTROL • PLANNING AND LOGISTICS • WAREHOUSE & DISTRIBUTION • TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT • PRODUCTION

 

The production is located in total area 4,000m2 and operates through computerized environment. The company employs more than 100 people. The departments of production includes:

• Foundry • Cutting layout parts coils
• Intermediate phases (configurations, welds, links etc.) • Finishing • Manufacture of cylinders high-security • Assembly and final checkout • Packaging • Raw material, Intermediates and Warehousing ready product

All the special equipment is produced by the qualified personnel of the company or by partner companies always with the supervision of the Technical Department

The raw materials, the produced parts and all final products are controlled under the directives approved quality control with each new product and finished product is tested according to European standards in the company's test lab.

The factory cooperates with accredited and same philosophy sub-contractors, serving the needs of the production.
